Purdie! Carmine! And Paul Shaffer.
I got to meet and hang with a couple of my drum idols, Bernard Purdie and Carmine Appice at Carmine's book release party at The Cutting Room a few weeks ago! I was fortunate that Billy Amendola from MD Magazine pulled me into the VIP meet-and-greet before the show. It was an amazing night, and my buddy Jeff Ganz killed it on bass with Carmine's band. Purdie has always been special to me, (that video of him 'splaining" the Purdie shuffle gets me every time. https://youtu.be/oOWdp1sOxv . I first met him in Boston about 10 years ago when he walked into Andrea Capozzoli's show at a place called Azure. He was in town for a clinic, and after a few minutes, I asked him to sit in. He was so gracious, and played that shuffle on on Andrea's tune "Live My Life". It was a night to remember, and I got to hang with him at the clinic the next day too. Amazingly, he said he remembered our previous meeting, and we shared a laugh or two and took this pic (w/my drummer buddy Vin Scialla). The night only got better when former Letterman bandleader Paul Shaffer showed up and sat in. This man probably knows more tunes than anyone alive. It was great to meet him too!
